Active Retirement  AGM;

Active Retirement AGM

The  AGM of Kingscourt Active Retirement was held in the Parish Centre on Friday last 6 th. February.  The well attended meeting was addressed by Ms. Teresa Abbot, Regional Development Officer, of the Active Retirement.  New Committee, elected; Chairperson ; Noreen Rooney, Vice  do. Larry Carty, Secretary ; Catherine O’Reilly, Ass, Sec. Margaret Burns , Treasurer ; Betty Callaghan, Ass. Tr. Catherine Blake,  Events Organisers; June McEntee & Pauline Wakely Up coming events; Regional Annual Dinner Dance , on the 19 th. February in the Nuremore Hotel, Carrickmacross, starting at 2.00.pm.  Outing to An Grianan to be organised for May 2015 . Photo, taken at the AGM of the attendance present.

World Day of Prayer ;

This year the service will take place in St. Ernan’s Church, Kingscourt on Friday 6 th. March at 7.30.pm.  The speaker will be the Reverend  Joyce Moore, who works in St. Peter’s (Church of Ireland)parish in Drogheda.  This lively service has been prepared  by the Christian women of The Bahamas, in the Caribbean, it reflects their love of music and their culture. Everyone is welcome both men and women, boys and girls, please come along and bring a friend.

Lenten Novena 2015 ;

The Annual Lenten Novena commences on Wednesday 18 th. February, in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Kingscourt, when the speaker will be His Eminence Cardinal Sean Brady, Archbishop Emeritus of Armagh.  On Wednesday  25 th. February the speaker will be  Sr. Enda McMullan,  St. Louis Sister.

Cabra Castle Hotel, wins Award

Members of the  Corscadden family are celebrating this week as one of their three castle hotels- Cabra Castle Hotel , Kingscourt was named the best four- star hotel in Ireland at the prestigious CIE Tours International Annual Awards of Excellence  ceremony which took place at Dublin Castle.. The awards, which are in their 25 th. year , are based entirely on feedback from the  36,000  CIE Tours customers who visited Ireland during 2014.

Cabra Castle a member of  Manor House Hotels of Ireland , saw a 20% increase in the number of CIE Tours guests staying at the luxurious property last year, the majority of whom were from Germany, the USA, Canada and Australia. More than € 3 million has been invested by its owners into the 18th.  century castle over the past five years.

Cancer fund ;

Kingscourt Cancer Fund provides “Free Taxi”  service for patients to all hospitals also grant aid to families, Its charity shop in Church street ,is open  Thursday & Friday 10.00.am to 6.00.pm and on Saturday 10.00.am to 4.00, well worth a visit.

Regretted Death ;

The death occurred suddenly of John (Jack) O’Reilly,20 Cluain Dara, Kingscourt on Thursday 29 th. January, formerly of 3 Singleton , Mell, Drogheda, he was a  retired postman. Deeply regretted by his loving wife; Ursula, daughter ; Ciara, sisters ; Mary , Irene , & Gaye, brothers ; Paddy , Liam & Harry. Sadly missed by his mother-in-law, Mary Dunne, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews , relatives and friends to whom sympathy is extended. Removal to the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Kingscourt, on Monday 2 nd. February, with requiem Mass on Tuesday 3 rd. February in the Church of the Immaculate Conception with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

Christmas Party ;

The annual Christmas Party organised by Kingscourt Social Services was held on Sunday last in Cabra Castle Hotel, the attendance of over 140 people were treated  to a sumptuous  meal which was served by very helpful and courteous members  of Cabra Castle Hotel, staff.

Council Meeting ;

A meeting of Kingscourt  Community Council was held on Tuesday of last week with arrangements  for this year’s St. Patrick’s  Day parade being discussed, starting as usual from Mt. St. Joseph  at 1.00.pm. Invitations have been sent out to all organisations , clubs and schools to get involved and participate  in this year’s parade. Like on past years the parade will be shown world -wide by  webcam. There will be the usual prizes for best dressed  shop window. this year’s theme  will be the “Thirty’s”

Kingscourt Bridge, has resumed every Monday at 7.15.pm in Cabra Castle  Hotel, new members very welcome.

Baptisms ;

The Parish Community welcomes recently baptised,  Callum  Edward Molloy and Conor  Peter Clarke.  All baptisms take place on the  2 nd & 4 th. Sathurday of each month at 4.00.pm in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Kingscourt.

St. Vincent de Paul, Volunteers Needed :

Kingscourt St. Vincent de Paul are now looking for volunteers for the new St. Vincent de Paul Charity Shop which is now open and is located at lower Main Street, Kingscourt. Goods are also needed which can be left in on February 3 rd, 4 th – 7 th. from 2.00.pm to 5.00.pm

The Late Peter Farrelly :

The death occurred on Saturday n24 th. January of Peter  Farrelly, late of Drumbar, Kingscourt at Kilmainhamwood Nursing Home, he was in his 95 th. year. Deeply regretted by his brother, Frank, Dublin, nephews , nieces, and sisters in law, to whom sympathy is extended. He was predeceased by 1 sister and 10 brothers.  Peter was domiciled  for 20 years in America, returning home in the early sixty’s to live native Drumbar, where he was actively involved in farming activities. He later retired to live in a house in Kilmainhamwood Retirement Village for 10 years after which he moved into the Kilmaimhamwood Nursing Home . He had a great interest in the GAA from an early age, especially hurling, along with his brothers they played with the Kingscourt Stars in the  1940’s, he played in goals,  in Kearney’s field off the Kells road, it was the  playing field for all of the Kingscourt teams, before the later development of O’Raghallaigh Park.  He loved to talking about the great Cavan teams of the early forty’s and fifty’s

Reposing at Kieran’s Funeral Home, Hall St. Kingscourt on Monday 26 th. January, with removal later to the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Kingscourt. Requiem funeral Mass on Tuesday 27 th. January at 10.00.am in the Church of the Immaculate Conception with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery

Regretted Death ;

The death occurred  of Anna (Nancy) Corrigan (nee Farrelly) Lisnagrew, Kilmainhamwood, on Tuesday 27 th. January, peacefully at her home. The deceased who had been unwell for some time was in her 90 th. year. Predeceased by her husband, Peadar, sons, Patsy and Peter. daughters ,Geraldine, and Philomena. Deeply regretted by her loving daughters, Olve (Courtney) Maura (Barber), Ann (Smyth) and Orla ( Byrne), sons Michael and  Laurance. brother , Michael Farrelly, sister-in-law May ,daughters-in-law, sons-in-law, grandchildren, great-grand children, nephews ,nieces, relatives and friends to whom sympathy is extended . Reposing at Kieran’s Funeral home, Hall Street, Kingscourt  on  Wednesday 28 th. Jan. with removal later to the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Requiem Funeral Mass on Thursday 29 th. Jan. in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, with burial in the adjoining cemetery   .

Kingscourt News 29th January

Ecumenical  Service ;

There was a good attendance in the Church of The  Immaculate Conception, Kingscourt on Wednesday  21 st January of last week for the annual Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, which was led by  Church of Ireland, Bishop of Meath & Kildare, Most Rev. Pat. Storey  also Rev. William Steacy Rector, Church of Ireland, Kingscourt Rev. Fr. Gerry McCormack, P.P. Kingscourt and Rev Jim Hagan, Ervey Presbyterian Church. The combined choirs of all the churches were accompanied organist’s Roberta Steacy and Derek  Eakins.

Cosgrave) The Bishop was warmly welcomed  on what was her first visit to The Church of the Immaculate Conception, she was also the recipient  of a number of presentations for which she was thankful. Refreshments were provided afterwards in the Parish Centre.  The retiring collection for St. Vincent de Paul realised  €295 .

Kingscourt Blood Donor Clinic Thanks;

The Irish Blood Donor Transfusion Service (IBTS) would like to thank all 107 Donors who attended  the recently held clinic in Kingscourt Community Centre, Kingscourt. It is essential that we maintain and increase the level of support on our next visit to Kingscourt.

A breakdown of the total figures shows that 10 first time donors and 11 former donors attended the clinic.  A total of 1,301 units were required in Cavan General Hospital during 2014. Finally on behalf of all the  patients  in hospital who benefit from your generosity, a heartfelt thank you  to all who attended  or helped with our Kingscourt Clinic in any way.

Kingscourt News 22nd January

Donation to Rapuzel Foundation : 

Rapunzel FoundationCongratulations to Ms. Rebecca O’Reilly, (8yrs), 4 Shamrock Avenue, Kingscourt,  who recently donated 15 inches of her hair to the Rapunzel Foundation.

Marriage :

Congratulations to  Ms. Rosie Boylan  & Mr. Keith Valentine on their recent marriage. Couples intending marriage in the Diocese of Meath must complete an ACCORD pre marriage  workshop.

Zimbabwe Mission Draw:

Thanks to all who supported the recent fundraising draw in aid of Fr. Fernando’s , Mission in Zimbabwe, which raised €1600. The prize winners were Dolores Clarke, Mary O’Hurley & Lynda Sherlock.

Regretted  Death :

There was genuine regret and sadness in the area,  at the death on Saturday 17th. January of Pearse  Carolan, Dunheeda, Kingscourt, Co. Meath, peacefully at Our Lady’s Hospital, Navan.  For the deceased who was in his 96 year, it was his first time to be in hospital, he was the last of his family. Pre deceased by his brothers and sister, he is deeply regretted by his loving nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews,  great-grand nieces, great-grand nephews, relatives and many friends.  Reposing at Kieran Bros. Funeral Home, Kingscourt on Sunday afternoon , removal on Sunday evening to the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Kingscourt. Requiem funeral Mass on Monday in the Church of The Immaculate Conception, with burial in the adjoining cemetery, he will be sadly missed from the community.
