On Tuesday evening of last week  there was a large  attendance  of parents and children, in Kingscourt Community Centre. The attendance included officials from Cavan -Monaghan ETB, including Mr. Martin O’Brien CEO and Cllr. Clifford Kelly.  The CEO Mr. Martin O’Brien, outlined the ongoing work involved , with  projected video display of the  New College and its buildings. This was followed with a  questions and answers session from many members of the large attendance, on the workings of the new college, which were answered by the CEO ,Mr. Martin O’Brien. Coin Collection ;

Next weekend, there will be a collection taken up of  1 & 2 cent coins which are being withdrawn from circulation  by the Central Bank, the collection will be taken up at all parish Masses next weekend and will be used  by the Parish Restoration Fund, this is an opportunity  for everyone to get rid of the coins which are no longer in use.

The Late  Ann Johnston ;

There was genuine regret and sadness  in the area, at the death  of Ann Johnston (nee Ward) suddenly  at her residence Rock’s  Road, Kingscourt, on Friday 6 th. November.  Predeceased by her husband, Pat, daughter, Annie, brothers, sisters and parents. The deceased who was in her 70 th. year  was a former employee of Gypsum Industries for many years in the Office canteen.   In the 1980’s, she was actively involved  with the late Arthur McGinley and others  in the running of Kingscourt Athletic Club .  She was later to join the  Ladies Golf Club in Cabra Castle, where she was an active committee member. An interest in gardening, which was always well maintained.  She was  regular attending   the local Bingo.

Deeply regretted by her loving daughter  Karen, son-in-law  Derek, grandchildren, Sophie, Lili, Harry & Charlie. Sadly missed by her brothers, Philip and Kevin, sisters , Mena , Ben,  Dympna  and Elizabeth. nephews, nieces, relatives and many friends. Reposing at her residence with removal on Saturday 7 th. Nov. to the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Kingscourt.  There was a large and representative  attendance at the  Requiem concelebrated funeral Mass On Sunday 8 th. Nov. with burial in the adjoining cemetery, the celebrants were  Rev. Fr. Mark English, Kingscourt, adm and Rev.Fr. Michael Meade P.P. Summerhill. Sacred music was reverently sung by the Church Folk Choir, she will be sadly missed from the community.

Adult Literacy Volunteers ;

Volunteers needed in the Kingscourt area to work with Adult Literacy learners. Training will take place on a Monday and Wednesday morning, from 10.am to 1 pm, in the Kilmore Hotel, Cavan starting Monday  16 th. November and finishing  on Wednesday 9 th. December 2015.  If you have time to spare  and an interest  in helping others, please contact Regina Clarke , Cavan & Monaghan Education and Training Board, on 087 72855907 .

“Tops  of Breffni, Reunion”

To Mark  the occasion of the Golden Anniversary of the ” Tops of Breffni” Mass will be celebrated in St. Clare’s  Church at 7.30.pm on this Wednesday 9 th. September for the living and deceased committee members and entertainers. Relations and friends welcome. There will be light refreshments in the Farnham Hotel, Main St. Cavan after the  Mass. Funds raised at the time were for the building of the Convent School.

Cancer Funds, Presentations ;

Blood Donors ;

A very successful Blood Donor Clinic was held in Kingscourt Community Centre on Monday of last week, by the Irish Blood Transfusion Service.  A total of 122 donors attended,  which included 3 first time donors and 9 former donors .

Congratulations to Mr. Luke Reilly and Ms . Roisin  McEnaney on their recent marriage.

St. Vincent de Paul ;

St. Vincent de Paul Kingscourt, charity  shop are  seeking donations of bric-a- brac and small items of furniture  , ladies, Gents and children’s clothing.

Busy Parish Web Site ;

So far this year over 300,000  page views have taken place on the parish web site. Among the highlight’s  were the views on the web cam, the parish bulletin , First Holy Communion ceremonies,the fair of Muff, St. Patrick’s Day and cemetery Sunday. The top visitor  number s to the website are from Ireland, U.K., U .S .A ., Poland ,Australia , Canada , Brazil and Germany .

Children’s Choir ;

Registration of Children for the Children’s Choir with Parish Safeguarding Team takes place on Friday 11 th. September at 6.30.pm in the Parish Centre, . All children and parents to attend.

Crumlin  Hospital Thanks ;

Sincere thanks to all who contributed to the recent  Church gate collection for Crumlin Hospital which realised € 805.

National Finals, 

Photographed are local kids who represented Cavan at the National Finals in Athlone recently. They participated in Athletics, Quiz, Modelling, Art and Singing. We would like to thank Kingscourt Credit Union and Kingspan for their sponsorship. Thank you to Gemma in Supervalu for facilitating our annual bag packing fundraiser and thanks also to all who support it, our annual Cake Sale and Church Gate Collection. Congratulations to all the children. Well done!

National Finals

Celebrating  Forty Years (Book Launch)

The  committee  who for the past  40 years have  been responsible for  the organising of one of the most successful  Steam Threshing Displays at Moynalty, Co. Meath, published a fabulous  book to commemorate   the occasion . Coming from small  beginnings when it was founded in  1976, it has become  one of the largest in Ireland, copies are available for sale in Kingscourt  at Tereasa’s Shop, Lr. Main Street.Celebrating  Forty Years (Book Launch)

Kingscourt Social Services, recently held 1 day Tour with Memory Tours, visited Kilbeggan Distillery & The Derryglad Folk Museum. A   most enjoyable day was had by the 40 folk on the bus.

Regretted  Death;

The death occurred on Friday 28 th. August of Mary Rooney (nee Clarke) peacefully in Kilmainhamwood Nursing Home. Predeceased by her husband Brendan, sadly  missed by her sons ; Martin and Michael, daughter in law, Carmel, grandchildren, sisters, nieces ,nephews ,relatives and friends, to whom sympathy is extended .Reposing at her son Michael residence, Kilmainhamwood, with removal on Sunday evening to the Church of the Sacred Heart, Kilmainhamwood. Requiem funeral Mass  on Monday 31st August with burial in the adjoining cemetery.

The  Late Pat Callaghan ;

There was genuine regret in the area  at the death (suddenly )of Pat Callaghan, Rocks Road, Kingscourt, on Saturday 29 th August,  formerly of  Meath Hill. The deceased who was in his 74 th  year, was a quiet and unassuming person. He was employed for many years in Shekletons ,  Mackins and in Frazers, hardware shops. Coming from the Meath Hill—Barley Hill  areas  he was also into picking from family orchards, apples, plums  and damsels for use in the local areas.

Deeply  regretted by his loving wife, Betty, sons, Hugh, Joseph ,Ciaran, daughter ,Lesley, sisters , Margaret and Nancy ,brothers ,Paul,  Brendan and Gerry, son in law, John, daughters in law, Karen , Olivia ,Joan, grandchildren , Lauren , Darragh , Aoibhin , Gearoid ,Cormac , Liam and Donnacha,  nieces, nephews relatives and many friends, to whom sympathy is extended.

Reposing at his daughters home, Shamrock Drive, Kingscourt, with removal on Tuesday 1 st September to the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Kingscourt Requiem funeral Mass  at 12 Noon  with burial in the adjoining cemetery.

August, with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

Kingscourt News 4th August 2015

Family Reunion 

On Friday last a reunion of members of the McCabe families who attended National School in Edenagully    held a reception in the old school building to relieve their past memories of those bygone days. The school which    dates  back to the 1880’s  was closed in 1974 with the pupils going to Muff school and the reminder opting to Ballinamoney N.S. The school is located on the side of the Lough-An-lae  mountain and since it’s closure has been sold and converted to a family residence, it has a fabulous panoramic  view over a wide area of the countryside.   There were two teachers in the school when it closed, they were  Annie Daly and Catherine Donohue

The late  Tommy Martin ;

The death has occurred  of  Thomas (Tommy) Martin, Barleyhill, Kingscourt, Co. Cavan, peacefully at  Beaumont, Hospital Dublin on Monday 27 th. July, he was in his 94 th. year, he was the last of his family. Predeceased by his wife,  Molly, 2 grandsons, 2 great-grandsons , 1 granddaughter. Deeply regretted by his sons; Gerry & Tommy, daughters; Frances , Ann , Breda &Peggy, grandchildren ;Olivia , Christina ,Kathryn , Barry , Emma , Lauren ,Patrick , John ,Marie , Eugene , Aidan ,Majella ,Niamh , Ronan , Alvin ,Conor , James , Michaela, 7 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends, to whom sympathy is extended.  An avid reader of daily  newspapers, with the Anglo Celt, being high on his list of weekend papers.

As a lorry driver he started with Cavan County Council, he  had been a Bus driver for many years in Dublin, with CIE, he was also a lorry driver with O’Reilly Bros., Gypsum Industries , he also worked on Security with  Kingspan Industries and deliveries with SuperValu, Kingscourt, was very active up until the time of his death.

Removal on Tuesday evening to the Church of St. Patrick and St.Bridget’s, Meath Hill, a guard of honour was formed by members of Meath Hill GFC. Concelebrated  Requiem funeral Mass on Wednesday 29 th. July, celebrants were, Rev. Fathers Finnian Connaughton P.P. Drumcondrath and Fr. Sean Martin., combined choirs of Meath Hill and Drumcpndrath, organist, M.J. Martin, soloist (Alto Sax) John Legget.  with burial afterwards in   St. Mary’s cemetery, Kingscourt, members of Kingscourt Ladies and gents  GFC formed a guard of honour .

Cemetery  Sunday ;

On Sunday last the annual blessing of graves was held in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Kingscourt, with a very large attendance present, many coming from  neighbouring towns and further afield. The ceremonies started with concelebrated Mass at 12 Noon in the cemetery, the celebrants  Rev. Fr. Gerry McCormack P.P. Kingscourt and Rev. Fr. Joseph O’Reilly , it was relayed through the cemetery by P.A. facilities. The cemetery was in pristine condition, with all  grave’s clean and  all lawns neatly trimmed, conditions remained dray for the ceremonies . Hymns were sung reverently by the Church choir, with organist accompaniment.
