Arts & Heritage Ministers Visit ;

On Friday last Ms Heather Humphreys T.D., Minister for Arts & Heritage, was warmly welcomed to Cabra Central School, by newly appointed Principal, Ms. Janine O’Neill, (in her Press release)  she stated that it gives her great pleasure to welcome Minister Humphreys T.D. back to visit us. Her support along with that of our former Principle Mrs. Rountree, Chairperson Reverend William Steacy and Board of Management  enabled us to secure the funding needed from the Department of Education and Skills to renovate and extend the playground. Architect Mr. Niall Smith and builders  Shankill Construction ensured the  work was carried out to the highest standards.  Where we once had a cracked and dangerous playground, we now have a bright, spacious and safe play area for the pupils in our care.

In addition to our new play area the school recently extended to include a new hall, dedicated learning support room and staff room. We offer a separate  outdoor area  for the Infant Classes. We have a low pupil teacher ratio- we are currently working with a ratio of 12 to 1 in our Infant Classroom. This has enabled us to implement the new Aistear Curriculum- a play centred learning programme inspired by the children’s interests.

Our school has a history of high academic  achievement . The school achieved an outstanding Whole School Evaluation  report in 2013 from the Department of Education.

A book rental scheme is in place to keep book  costs low for parents. We also have no uniform for the same reason. The school is serviced by buses in the Kingscourt, Carrickmacross and Shercock areas and we now have pedestrian  footpath from Kingscourt to the school.

We are a very busy, progressive school, some of the activities we are involved in are ; Reading Recovery and Lift Off to Literacy, ;  Swimming Lessons ; Sports Coaching ; Visiting artists ; Road safety workshops ; Involvement in St. Patrick’s Day Parade ; Credit Union Quiz and competitions

Street Cleaning ;

Many traders in the town do regularly clean up in front of their premises, collecting all sorts of rubbish which is commendable , in the absents of a regular town street cleaning service, there is room for others to follow the example of the few ,who keep their area clean and tidy.

Brick Works , to Reopen ?

It is nearly three years since the close of Kingscourt Brick works, there was then  a stock of over 4 million bricks at the brick yard, most of the stock has been used in the building trade and with the improvement in the construction  industry there is hope that  there is a possibility that  bricks will be again produced at the factory.
