Lough Derg Parish Pilgrimage ; 

Pilgrimage to Lough Derg

Parishioners from Kingscourt and the cluster parish of Nobber/ Kilbeg joined 200 fellow pilgrims for a one day retreat, led by Very Rev. Owen  McEneaney, Prior of Lough Derg and Fr. John Flanagan C.C. Rev. Fr. Gerry McCormack P.P., Kingscourt also attended with other visiting priests. The Late  Francis Hickey ( nee Clarke )

It was with Deep Sadness and Regret, that the community heard of the death of Frances Hickey (nee Clarke) who died on Monday 25 th. August, peacefully at her home, Rolagh, Kingscourt, Co. Meath. Beloved wife of  Philip, deeply regretted by her sons Philip, John,  Paul, Kieran and Martin, daughters ; Bernadette, Margaret , Jackie , Caroline and Fiona. Sadly missed by her sisters;  Bridie, Mary, Jenny and Martha, sons-in-law ;Pat, Niall ,Brian ,Martin & Patrick, daughters-in-law ; Bridie , Bernie, Emma , Shaunagh & Mary, Grandchildren ; Colm, Kevin ,Sean ,Gavin ,Dona , Ryan , Wayne ,Shauna , Nathan ,Hayley , Brian , Dylan ,Megan ,Lucy and Shane.

The deceased who was in her 77 th. year, was a person of her word, with a great love of her family and grandchildren, an expert baker, providing a constant supply of bread for the family, puddings was another special for all the family and friends. For many years she was an avid Bingo player attending all of the local bingo’s, she would go  on pilgrimages to Knock Shrine , she also visited  Our Lady of Lourdes shrine. In 2004  she travelled to New York, with St. Mary’s Band and walked in their St. Patricks Day Parade. There  was a large and representative attendance    at her funeral which followed con celebrated  Requiem Mass on Wednesday 27 th. August in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Kingscourt with burial in the adjoining cemetery. The celebrants were Very Rev. Fr. Gerry McCormack P.P., Kingscourt,  Rev. Fr. Finian  Connaughton ,P.P. Drumconrath and Re. Fr. Seamus Houlihan , P.P.  Nobber. She will be sadly missed from the community.

Ollie  Gogarty from Kingscourt on a recent holiday visit to  Innishannon, Co. cork, had a surprise meeting with his favourite Irish Author, Alice Taylor.

St. Ernan’s Hall, Renovation’s ;

St. Ernan’s  C.O.I. parish Hall, Kingscourt,  which was built in 1889 , to a design by William Hague Arch. (Cavan), the hall was extended in 1931. Known locally as the Red Hall ,because it was constructed with Red Brick.  Planning permission is being sought for major alterations and conservation work, with the construction of a new entrance porch, new windows,, ramp, installation of kitchen and toilet facilities.

Kingscourt  1899 ;

The post master was;  J.H. Nichols,  stamps were available in the Market House. The Constabulary Station (R.I.C.) now a private residence beside, McCormack’s filling station, The R.I.C.  sergeant  name was, Blackhouse. the Railway Station , Master was John Wood, the National School Master was James Brady. The Petty Sessions Court, Clerk , was John H. Malcolmson.

The Parish Priest  was ; Rev Joseph  Flood,  with,  Rev. Patrick Clarke C.C. , and Rev. John Fagan C.C.  The Church of Ireland  Rector ; was Rev Hugh  Gelston  M.A. In 1891 , the population of Kingscourt was  873.

Humanitarian  Collection ;

Sincere thanks to all who contributed to the humanitarian collection for the Holy Land, it realised € 565, it has been forwarded to Archbishop Fauad Twal, Archbishop and Patriarch of the Holy land

The Parish Community welcomes recently baptised, ;Georgina Emilt Rooney, Shiela Lolita  Lynch, Charlie Mark Jude Reilly, Layla Rose Scotson , Eoin Lorcan  Shekleton , and Mona Carol Ann  Barry.   All baptisms take place on the 2 nd. & 4 th. Saturdays of the month at 4.00.pm in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Kingscourt.

Diamond Jubilee of Religious Profession ;

Congratulations to  Sr. Margaret Campbell, a native of Corlea who recently celebrated the Diamond Jubilee of her Religious Profession as a Sister of Mercy

Folk Choir, Open Evening ;

Kingscourt Folk Choir are holding an Open Evening and rehearsal on Friday 5 th. September at 8.30.pm, in the Parish Centre. They would warmly welcome additional new members and musicians to join them.
