Magnificent Response to Movember Fundraiser ;

Emigrant Sunday ;
On Sunday next 19 th. January , there will be a remembering service for all emigrants in various parts of the world. A large Map of the World will be on the altar, in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Kingscourt. Parishioners are requested to leave the names of those abroad on the map.
Free First Aid Courses ;
Cavan Civil Defence are holding Free First Aid Courses in Kingscourt, registration at Kingscourt Fire Station on January 13 th & 20 th. at 8.00.pm
Hospice Collection, Thanks;
Sincere thanks to all who supported the recent collection for St. Christopher’s Hospice which raised €1300.
Ecumenical Service ;
The annual service to mark the week of Prayer for Christian unity will be held in the Church of the Immaculate Conception on Wednesday 22 nd. January at 7.30.pm, all are welcome .
Gypsum’s First Lorry
Photo shows the first lorry in use at Gypsum Industries in 1948, it was an American Mack lorry L/H drive which was used to transport Gypsum rock from the near-by quarry to the crusher at the Plaster Mill at Lisnaboe .
Bereaved ;
Sympathy is extended to the Rev. William Steacy, Rector C.O.I. Kingscourt on the death of his mother, Cynthia Steacy (nee James) of Wingfield, Gorey, Wexford who died on Friday 3 rd. January at St. Vincent’s Hospital. Predeceased by her husband William, loving mother of Sylvia, George , William , and Janet. Mother-in-law of Raymond, Colin ,Mary and Roberta and grandmother of Meghan , Craig , Sophie, Gillian ,Stuart , Ben and Harry. Deeply regretted by her brothers; Val and George, sisters-in-law, Marina ,and Yvonne, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. Funeral Service on Monday 6 th. January at 3.00.pmin Kilpipe Church ( Curraghlawn) with burial afterwards in the adjoining Churchyard .
The Late Florence Donagh (nee Magee)
There was genuine regret and sadness in the area at the death of Florence Donagh (nee Magee) peacefully at her residence Lower Main St., Kingscourt, and ( formerly of Mountnugent) on Thursday , 9 th. January. The deceased who was in her early eighty’s , had been unwell for some . time, A former staff member of Gypsum Industries, she was a lady of care and compassion who was devoted to her family and grandchildren. Deeply regretted by her loving husband Matt, son Pat , daughter-in-law Rosena, sisters Rose and Josephine, grandchildren, David, Padraig and Sara-Rose, relatives and friends. There was a large and representative attendance at the removal on Friday 10 th. January and Funeral which followed con-celebrated Requiem Mass on Saturday 11 th. January in the Church of the Immaculate Conception,( the celebrants were Very Rev. Fr. Gerry McCormack PP and Rev. Fr. Paddy Reilly) with burial in the adjoining cemetery, she will be sadly missed from the community .
